India Updates Toy Import Policy: Certification Now Required for Safety Standards Compliance Effective January 27, 2010.
The Government of India has amended its import policy for toys, superseding the previous notification from June 16, 2009. The new policy, effective January 27, 2010, specifies that toys, including tricycles, scooters, pedal cars, dolls, and puzzles, can be imported freely under certain conditions. Importers must provide a certificate confirming the toys meet standards such as ASTM F963, ISO 8124, IS 9873, or EN 71. Additionally, a Certificate of Conformance from the manufacturer is required, verifying that toy samples have been tested by an accredited independent laboratory and meet the specified standards.
