India Exempts Antarctic Imports from Customs Duties Until 2028, Subject to Certification by Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The Government of India, through Notification No. 90/2009-Customs dated September 7, 2009, exempts all goods imported from Antarctica into India from customs duties and integrated tax as specified in the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. This exemption is contingent upon the importer providing a certificate from a qualified officer in the Ministry of Earth Sciences, confirming the goods' relevance to the Indian Antarctic Expedition or the Indian Polar Science Programme. The notification remains effective until March 31, 2028. Subsequent amendments were made via Notifications No. 47/2021-Customs and No. 11/2023-Customs.
