Govt Amends Customs Notification: Exempts Bulk Drugs for Life-Saving Medicines; Importers Must Ensure Proper Use and Documentation.
The Central Government has amended a previous customs notification to provide exemptions for specified bulk drugs used in manufacturing life-saving drugs and medicines. The amendment requires importers to furnish an undertaking ensuring the imported goods are used for their intended purpose. Importers must maintain records of the goods received and consumed, certified by the manufacturer, and submit these records within three months or an extended period allowed by the Assistant Collector of Customs. Failure to comply with these conditions will result in the importer paying the duty difference on the imported goods as if the exemption were not applied.
