        <h1>Appointment of DRI officers as Customs officers centralises enforcement roles and prescribes corresponding customs designations nationwide.</h1> The central government appoints officers of the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence posted at Headquarters and zonal/regional units to be the Principal Commissioner/Commissioner of Customs, Additional/Joint Commissioners of Customs, and Deputy/Assistant Commissioners of Customs for the whole of India, under authority conferred by the Customs Act, with the date of effect to be notified in the Official Gazette; the notification supersedes a 1990 notification and records substitutions of designations effected by a 2014 notification.
