<h1>Customs Duty Exemption on Gold & Silver Imports by Key Indian Corporations Effective October 1997, Superseded in 2004</h1> The Central Government, under the Customs Act, 1962, exempted certain customs duties on gold and silver imported by entities like the Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation of India Limited, the Handicraft and Handloom Export Corporation, and the State Trading Corporation. This exemption, effective from October 21, 1997, applied to gold and silver in various forms, excluding jewelry and foreign currency coins. The specified customs duty rates were Rs. 220 per 10 grams for gold and Rs. 500 per kg for silver. This notification was later superseded by Notification No. 62/2004 on May 12, 2004.
