Central Government Amends Customs Notification: New Duty Exemptions for Handicraft Manufacturers Importing Specific Items
The Central Government has amended Notification No. 20/99-Customs, dated February 28, 1999, under the Customs Act, 1962. The amendment introduces new exemptions for importing specific items such as electrical parts for lamps, hinges, metal locks, wax items, chemicals, lacquer, and motifs used in manufacturing export products. These goods are exempt from customs duties if imported by registered handicraft manufacturers, with a value not exceeding 2% of the previous year's FOB value of exported handicrafts. Additionally, changes were made to include leather alongside textile garments in conditions related to export councils.
