<h1>New Amendment Allows Import and Export of Gems, Jewelry by EOUs and EPZs Under Updated Courier Regulations</h1> The Central Board of Excise and Customs has amended the Courier Imports and Exports (Clearance) Regulations, 1998, through the Courier Imports and Exports (Clearance) Amendment Regulations, 1999. Effective from their publication date, the amendment introduces a new sub-regulation allowing the import of gems and jewelry, including samples, by Export Oriented Units or units in Export Processing Zones. It also permits the export of cut and polished diamonds, gems, and jewelry under the Export and Import Policy (1997-2002), provided each export consignment does not exceed twenty lakh rupees in value.
