of <h1>Amendment to Customs Act 1962: Duty Exemption for Goods in Special Economic Zones Expanded to Include Unit Setup.</h1> The Central Government of India, under the Customs Act, 1962, has issued an amendment to the notification dated 19th October 2000, regarding customs duty exemptions. This amendment, effective from 13th August 2002, allows goods imported or procured for the development, operation, and maintenance of special economic zones to be exempt from customs duty. The amendment modifies the original notification to include the setting up of units as a purpose for which goods can be imported without customs duty, in addition to the manufacture of goods.
