of <h1>India Imposes Safeguard Duty on Acetone Imports from South Africa & Singapore Under Section 8B Until July 2002.</h1> The Central Government of India has amended Notification No. 7/2000-Customs to impose a safeguard duty on Acetone imports from South Africa and Singapore. This decision follows a review by the Director General (Safeguards), which concluded that these imports, constituting 3% or more of total imports during April-October 2001, threaten domestic producers. The safeguard duty will be levied under section 8B of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, and is applicable until July 26, 2002. The amendment specifically excludes South Africa and Singapore from the list of developing countries exempt from this duty.
