India Imposes Safeguard Duty on Phenol Imports from Malaysia, South Africa, and Singapore Until June 2003
The Central Government of India has imposed a safeguard duty on the import of Phenol from Malaysia, South Africa, and Singapore. This decision follows the Director General's findings that domestic producers are threatened by these imports, which constitute 3% or more of the import share. The safeguard duty, initially imposed in June 2001, will continue until June 2003 to support domestic restructuring efforts. The notification amends the previous exemption for developing countries, specifically excluding Malaysia, South Africa, and Singapore from this exemption, thereby subjecting imports from these countries to the safeguard duty.
