India Amends Toy Import Rules: Compliance with International Safety Standards Now Mandatory for All Entries
The Government of India amended Notification No. 82/(RE-2008)/2004-2009, prohibiting the import of toys under ITC Codes 9501, 9502, 9503 until January 23, 2010, and until further notice. However, imports are allowed if accompanied by certificates confirming compliance with specific international safety standards (ASTM F963, ISO 8124, IS 9873, EN 71) and a Certificate of Conformance from an independent ILAC-accredited laboratory. This amendment, issued in public interest, replaces the previous restriction specifically targeting toys from China, which required similar certification for importation.
