India Updates Halal Certification Policy: Exporters Need i-CAS Certification, 6-Month Compliance Window for Existing Bodies.
The Central Government has amended the policy conditions for the halal certification of meat and meat products. Only products produced, processed, or packaged in facilities with valid 'India Conformity Assessment Scheme (i-CAS) -- Halal' certification from the Quality Council of India will be allowed for export as halal-certified. Exporters must also comply with the importing country's halal regulations and hold valid certificates from approved bodies. Existing halal certification bodies and export units have six months to obtain necessary accreditations and registrations. The export process will adhere to the Foreign Trade Policy as updated by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
