India Updates Import Policy: Reptile & Fur Skins Now Free, Comply with Wildlife Protection & Health Protocols.
The Government of India has amended the import policy for items under Chapter 41 and 43 of the ITC (HS), 2017, Schedule I. The policy change, effective from January 7, 2021, reclassifies certain items from 'prohibited' to 'free,' including reptile skins, mink, fox, and other fur skins, subject to compliance with the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, CITES, and new health protocols outlined by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. These amendments are approved by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and aim to align import conditions with health and sanitary standards.
