India Removes IGST Exemption for Services Supplied to Nepal and Bhutan When Paid in Indian Rupees.
The Government of India, through Notification No. 2/2019 dated February 4, 2019, has amended Notification No. 9/2017-Integrated Tax (Rate) by omitting serial number 10D. This amendment removes the exemption of Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) on the supply of services with a place of supply in Nepal or Bhutan when payment is made in Indian Rupees. This decision was made under the powers granted by the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, based on recommendations from the relevant council, and is deemed necessary in the public interest.
