SEBI Amends 2008 Regulations: Expands 'Debt Securities' Definition to Include Non-Convertible Securities and Trusts.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued the Second Amendment Regulations, 2017, to modify the 2008 regulations on the issue and listing of debt securities. These amendments redefine 'debt securities' to include non-convertible securities such as debentures and bonds, excluding government bonds and certain other specified instruments. Additionally, the definition now encompasses securities from Real Estate Investment Trusts and Infrastructure Investment Trusts registered with SEBI. The amendments also clarify that these Trusts, if listed on recognized stock exchanges, fall under the purview of the regulations. These changes took effect upon publication in the Official Gazette.
