of <h1>Assistant and Deputy Commissioners Granted Limited Powers Under Customs Act Section 152; Penalties Capped at 10,000 Rupees per Case.</h1> The Central Government, under section 152 of the Customs Act, 1962, authorizes Assistant Commissioners or Deputy Commissioners of Customs to exercise powers similar to those of Principal Commissioners or Commissioners regarding offenses under section 116. However, the penalty imposed by an Assistant or Deputy Commissioner is capped at 10,000 rupees per case. This directive is established through Notification No. 123, dated 11th May 1963, with subsequent amendments to designations made by later notifications.
