Initially notified in 1996, the project has been repeatedly extended, with the latest extension covering the financial years 2014-15 to 2016-17. The project's estimated cost has been increased from Rs. 7.55 crore to Rs. 13.55 crore, following recommendations from the National Committee for Promotion of Social and Economic Welfare, due to the project's expected continuation beyond eighteen years.
