India Amends Excise Notification to Exempt Machinery for Solar Energy Projects, Effective July 11, 2014

The Government of India has amended Notification No. 15/2010-Central Excise, initially issued on February 27, 2010, to exempt machinery and components necessary for establishing solar power generation or solar energy production projects. The amendment, effective from July 11, 2014, requires a recommendation from a Deputy Secretary or higher in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, certifying the necessity of the goods for the project's initial setup. This amendment aims to facilitate the development of solar energy infrastructure by easing the excise duties on essential equipment.
