<h1>India Updates Baggage Rules: Increased Duty-Free Allowance and Revised Limits on Cigarettes and Tobacco under Customs Act, 1962.</h1> The Government of India, under the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 50/2014-Customs (N.T.) to amend the Baggage Rules, 1998. Effective upon publication in the Official Gazette, the amendment increases the duty-free allowance from 35,000 to 45,000 for certain items and from 15,000 to 17,500 for others. Additionally, the permissible limits for carrying cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco have been revised to 100 cigarettes, 25 cigars, or 125 grams of tobacco. These changes are made under the authority of the Customs Act, 1962.
