Chandigarh, Sep 2 (PTI) Haryana recorded a 29 per cent growth in state Goods and Services Tax (SGST) collections - the highest expansion among the states - in the April-August period of the current fiscal, an official statement said on Wednesday.

During the first five months of the financial year 2026-27, the state collected Rs 24,662 crore in SGST, as against Rs 19,174 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, registering a growth of 29 per cent. This is nearly double the national growth rate of 16 per cent, it said.

In August 2026, Haryana generated revenue of Rs crore from SGST (post-settlement), compared to Rs 4,119 crore in the corresponding month of the previous year. This represents a 21 per cent growth rate, higher than the national averageof 13 per cent for August 2026.

Haryana has 6.63 lakh GST taxpayers, accounting for less than 4 per cent of the total GST taxpayers in the country. Despite this, the State contributes approximately 7.7 per cent to the country's total GST collections, comprising SGST, CGST and IGST.

VAT/CST collections have also registered significant growth. During the first five months of the financial year 2026-27, VAT/CST collections stood at Rs 5,768 crore, compared to Rs 5,067 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, registering a growth of 13.8 per cent.
