India boosts defence manufacturing and BRO infrastructure projects, driving exports, self-reliance and stronger border security nationwide
India's defence manufacturing has significantly expanded over the past decade, with domestic production rising from approximately Rs 46,000 crore in 2014 to Rs 1.51 lakh crore and exports increasing to nearly Rs 24,000 crore. The Defence Minister highlighted this shift from import dependence to domestic production while inaugurating 125 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,000 crore across multiple Union Territories and states. The projects include roads, bridges and allied works in strategically sensitive areas, emphasizing technological innovation and indigenously developed Class-70 modular bridges. Government confidence is reflected in record BRO expenditure and increased budgetary allocation, underscoring infrastructure's link to national security and self-reliance.
