New Swarna Vasundhara soybean and Swarna Tripti pea boost farmer incomes, nutrition, and national self-sufficiency goals
An agricultural research institution in Ranchi has developed two crop varieties-soybean 'Swarna Vasundhara' and snow pea 'Swarna Tripti'-which have been formally recommended by the Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards for release and are now supplied to farmers across 14 states. The initiative aims at nutritional and livelihood security and aligns with national policy goals on self-sufficiency in pulses and improved public health. The soybean variety, derived from imported germplasm and improved locally, is marketed as nutritionally rich and suitable for value-added processing, with documented farmer profitability. Both varieties are under active dissemination through government-supported channels, including Krishi Vigyan Kendras and processing units.
