Finance ministry orders monthly brand-wise MRP comparison reports for 54 goods after September 22 GST rate cuts
The finance ministry directed GST field offices to submit monthly comparative data on maximum retail prices for 54 commonly used goods after new lower GST rates take effect on September 22. The first brand-wise report comparing pre- and post-September 22 MRPs is due to the tax board by September 30, with subsequent monthly submissions by the 20th for six months. The item list includes consumer goods and medical supplies such as cement, shampoo, toothpaste, ketchup, ice cream, appliances, diagnostic kits and glucometers, toys and stationery. The directive follows the tax council's decision to cut rates on numerous items and consolidate slabs into two tiers of 5% and 18%.
