Finance Ministry Clarifies: No Extension of Financial Year; Stamp Duty Amendments Delayed to July 1, 2020.
A false report is circulating in some media outlets claiming the Financial Year has been extended. The Government of India's notification on March 30, 2020, concerning amendments to the Indian Stamp Act, is being misrepresented. The Finance Ministry clarified that the notification, issued by the Department of Revenue, pertains to amendments for collecting Stamp Duty on Security Market Instruments transactions via Stock Exchanges or Clearing Corporations. Originally set to take effect on April 1, 2020, the implementation has been postponed to July 1, 2020, due to current circumstances. There is no extension of the Financial Year.
