CBDT Raises Monetary Limits for Income Tax Appeals: Rs. 50L for ITAT, Rs. 1Cr for HC, Rs. 2Cr for SC.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has increased the monetary limits for the Income Tax Department to file appeals in various appellate forums to manage litigation more effectively. The revised limits are now Rs. 50,00,000 for the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Rs. 1,00,00,000 for the High Court, and Rs. 2,00,00,000 for the Supreme Court. This change aims to reduce the backlog of appeals and allow the Department to concentrate on cases involving significant legal complexities and higher tax implications, thereby minimizing taxpayer grievances and optimizing resource allocation.
