RBI Promotes Cashless Economy: Free NEFT/RTGS Transactions, Debit Card Policies, and ATM Guidelines Revised.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has implemented measures to promote cashless transactions. Banks are instructed to issue debit cards per their approved policies and to use Aadhaar for customer verification under certain conditions. Effective July 1, 2019, RBI waived charges for transactions via the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) systems, advising banks to extend these benefits to customers. Additionally, guidelines on ATM transactions allow a minimum of five free transactions at own ATMs and three at other banks' ATMs in metro areas, with a maximum charge of Rs. 20 per transaction.
