India Opens Infrastructure Mutual Funds to Qualified Foreign Investors; USD 13 Billion Investment Cap Set.
The Indian government has allowed Qualified Foreign Investors (QFIs) to access mutual funds' equity and debt schemes in the infrastructure sector, following a budget announcement by the Finance Minister. This move aims to liberalize portfolio investments, allowing foreign investors compliant with Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements to participate. Two investment routes are available: a direct route through a demat account and an indirect route via Unit Confirmation Receipts. The investment ceiling is set at USD 10 billion for equity schemes and USD 3 billion for infrastructure debt schemes. This initiative is expected to boost global investor interest and provide additional funding for infrastructure projects in India.
