GST Council Eases July-August Return Deadlines, Adjusts Hotel Tax Thresholds, and Approves Key Rules Including Anti-Profiteering.
The GST Council has eased return filing rules for businesses for July and August, maintaining the July 1 launch date for the new tax regime. Sales returns for July are now due by September 5, and for August by September 20, allowing businesses more time to prepare. From September, strict deadlines will resume. The Council also raised the 28% tax threshold for AC hotels to Rs. 7,500, with an 18% GST on bills between Rs. 2,500-7,500. Lotteries will be taxed at 12% for state-run and 28% for state-authorized ones. Six rules, including anti-profiteering, were approved.
