Authorized Banks Facilitate Secure E-Payment of Central Excise Duty and Service Tax, Assign Unique Challan Identification Numbers
Banks play a crucial role in the e-payment of Central Excise Duty and Service Tax, being authorized Commissionerate-wise. Not all banks are authorized for every Commissionerate, and registered assessees can select authorized banks via the NSDL website. Authorized banks facilitate secure entry of payment details and issue a unique Challan Identification Number (CIN) upon transaction completion. Banks must ensure the taxpayer can download a counterfoil with transaction details and include CIN and transaction ID in bank statements. They should also offer facilities for re-generating electronic challans and provide clear procedural guidelines and contact information for resolving e-payment issues.
