My query is : can a member of HUF become a KARTA , after death of original Karta of HUF.

After the death of original KARTA, only elder male of the family can become KARTA.

Yes, in the normal course the oldest son becomes the karta of the HUF in the case of death of original karta. However The Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act 2005 has given equal rights to male and female in the matters of inheritance as a result a daughter also acquires status of coparcener.

Therefore in view of the above amendment,  in absence of any male member or only/all male member(s) is/are minor even a female member can become Karta / manager of HUF after 2005.
