Can a Daughter Become Karta of Hindu Undivided Family? Exploring Post-2005 Inheritance Rights and Gender Equality A legal discussion addressed whether a member of a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) can become a Karta after the original Karta's death. One response stated that traditionally, the eldest male becomes the Karta. Another response highlighted that the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act 2005 grants equal inheritance rights to males and females, allowing a daughter to become a coparcener. Consequently, if there are no adult male members, a female can become the Karta of the HUF after 2005. (AI Summary)
