Engineering Product Manufacturer Seeks Excise Duty Rebate for Exports; Rule 18 Procedures and Compliance Debated A manufacturer of engineering products inquires about claiming a rebate on excise duty for exports under various schemes, including advance licenses and EPCG. Responses indicate that if excise duty is paid on exported goods, a rebate can be claimed under Rule 18, provided the correct procedures are followed. However, if goods are imported duty-free under certain notifications, exporting them requires a bond or LUT, disallowing rebate claims. Opinions vary on eligibility, with some experts affirming rebate eligibility for duty-paid exports, while others highlight restrictions under specific notifications, emphasizing the need for compliance with procedural requirements.
