Belated return filing: returns for different years are independent but late file penalties apply when income exceeds exemption.
A taxpayer may file a return for a later year notwithstanding omission of an earlier year's return because each year's return is independent; however, a penalty for belated filing may be imposed if the return is filed after the assessment year and the taxpayer's income exceeds the exemption threshold. Once can always file return for the next year. Each return is independent. Penalty is leviable if the return is filed after the end of the assement year having income exceeding the amount not liable to tax.
