Security for disputed service tax: deposit required instalments and provide bank guarantee or solvency bond pending final decision.
The Supreme Court required interim compliance for disputed service tax on renting of immovable property by mandating partial deposit of alleged arrears in instalments, furnishing a bank guarantee or solvent surety for the balance, and filing individual affidavits undertaking payment of any amount finally adjudicated; interest on stayed amounts is reserved. A Trade Notice implements these directions by requiring taxpayers to pay service tax under protest, submit landlord and payment particulars with challans, and furnish prescribed formats of Solvency Certificate, Bank Guarantee or General Bond to satisfy the jurisdictional Commissioner. (AI Summary)

Service Tax  made payable on Renting of Commercial Property w.e.f. 01-June-2007.

Thereafter, there were several litigations and diferrent opinions by Various High Courts and the matter was pending with Supreme Court - But till such time it is finally decided, nothing has changed!!

Is there anybody who can guide me the recent development on this please?
