Leave Travel Exemption for F.Y 25-26 Return

Rajat Gupta

Travel expenditure done in June 2025 will be claimed in Income tax return of F.Y 25-26. Will it be considered expenditure made in block year 2022-25 or 2026-29. What block year means? Whether it is about the period in which expenditure is made or when expenditure is claimed in return?

Business travel expense claims depend on actual incurrence and exclusive business purpose for the relevant income year. Travel expenditure may be claimed in the income tax return for FY 2025-26 only where the taxpayer has a business or profession and the travel is wholly and exclusively for business purposes. The claim depends on the period in which the expenditure is actually incurred, so travel expenses incurred between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026 may be claimed in the ITR for FY 2025-26 if the stated conditions are satisfied. you can claim travel expenditure if

1. you have business or profession +

2. travel related to wholly and exclusively business purpose.

if both conditions fulfilled then only exp. incurred between 1april 2025 to 31 march 2026 can claim in ITR FY 25-26
