Deduction under 80D: joint parental mediclaim may qualify for the senior citizen deduction when one parent is senior.
Deduction for premiums under 80D for a joint mediclaim policy is queried where one parent is a senior citizen. The response asserts that the senior citizen deduction limit under 80D applies because one of the insured parents qualifies as a senior citizen, treating eligibility as satisfied by the presence of a senior insured on the joint policy. (AI Summary)

Dear Experts,

I have a joint mediclaim policy for my parents. My father is a senior citizen and mother is not senior citizen. So which deduction to be claimed? 25000 or 50000? (50000 is for senior citizens u/s 80D)

Thanks in advance!!

According to my knowledge, since one of them is a senior citizen, Rs. 50000 can be claimed as deduction u/s 80D. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you
