TDS on medical reimbursement for pensioners may apply when statutory thresholds are exceeded and is charged per applicable slab. Whether medical bill reimbursements to retired employees attract Tax Deducted at Source (TDS): one reply treats TDS as deductible against pension income and computed per the pensioner's tax slab; another questions whether such reimbursements are exempt; a further reply indicates TDS is to be deducted when reimbursements exceed a stated monetary limit. Dear Sh.Ganeshan Kalyani Ji,

Is reimbursement of medical bill for pensioner or employee not exempted from TDS ? Pl. confirm.

DR.MARIAPPAN GOVINDARAJAN on Apr 7, 2019

If the medical bill reimbursement exceeds the limit (I think it is ₹ 15,000) then tax is to be deducted at source.
