Import Export Code (IEC) after GST

lakush jain

Do I need to register for IEC code or can I just use GSTIN number?

Below memo states that I can use GSTIN number but it is confusing that whether I still need to register with DGFT for IEC to consider my PAN number as IEC?

GSTIN Generally Replaces Import Export Code, No Separate Registration Needed Post-GST Implementation A user inquired whether they need to register for an Import Export Code (IEC) after the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) or if their GSTIN number suffices. Responses clarified that GSTIN, which is PAN-based, generally serves as the IEC, eliminating the need for separate registration with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). However, in cases where GSTIN is not applicable, the PAN will act as the IEC. It was noted that importers should quote their GSTIN in import documentation and that IEC registration details must be accepted by ICEGATE for import/export activities. (AI Summary)
