SEZ jurisdictional treatment limits buyers' credit eligibility, with alternative financial facilities and ministry representation advised. A query asked why buyers credit is not available for imports from Special Economic Zones when DTA sales are treated as exports, DTA importers pay customs duty, and foreign exchange is involved. The reply explained that as a policy to boost exports SEZs are treated as outside Indian jurisdiction, which affects eligibility for certain credit facilities; alternative financial facilities exist and the issue may be pursued by formal representation to the Commerce and Finance Ministries. As a policy matter and to boost the exports purposes only the SEZs are treated not in the jurisdiction of India. However other financial facilities are also available to SEZs Units. You may raise this matter with Commerce Ministry as well as Finance Ministry by way of representation in writing.
