GST registration cancellation unavailable online for taxpayers migrated under GST; only failed migrations show cancellation option.
Taxpayers migrated to GST who no longer meet registration thresholds cannot currently surrender or cancel their GSTIN online if migration completed. The portal's cancellation function appears limited to failed or incomplete migrations; Form GST REG-16 is not accessible online for completed migrants, and website downtime or execution errors further prevent use of available cancellation features. (AI Summary)

MANY TAXPAYERS WERE MIGRATED FROM SERVICE TAX / VAT PROVISIONS TO GST DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEIR TAXABLE TURNOVER UNDER GST IS LESS THAN 20 LAKH AS SUCH WERE NOT LIABLE TO REGISTRATION.

THERE IS NO ONLINE OPTION AVAILABLE FOR SURRENDER OF SUCH GSTN. CAN ANYBODY PLEASE EXPLAIN THE PROCEDURE FOR THE SAME

@kasturi Sethi

The cancellation feature on GST portal is available only for those assessees who have initiated the process of migration but could not be successfully migrated to GST. However, in cases where migration process is complete there is no option available for cancellation.

@ Vinod Chaurasia

As far as the article of Mr.Vinod Chaurasia, Form No.GST REG 16 is not available online. Any suggestions

GST site remain closed up to 14 00 hrs on 1.9.2017 for some purpose. You may re-check the same. Keep track on the site regularly as up-gradation is in progress.
