Debate Over GST Rate for Scrap Fridge Compressors: 28% or 18%? Call for Clarification from GST Council. A participant in a discussion forum inquired about the Harmonized System of Nomenclature (HSN) code and Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate for scrap fridge compressors. Initially, it was suggested that both new and scrap compressors fall under the 28% GST slab with HSN code 8414. However, others argued that scrap compressors should be taxed at 18%, similar to other types of scrap like ferrous materials (HSN 7204), aluminum (HSN 7602), and copper (HSN 7404). It was advised to represent this issue to the GST Council for clarification, especially given the discrepancy in tax rates between new and scrap items. (AI Summary)
