Aluminium Engine Import

Sam M

Hello,

We have imported Aluminium Engine scrap into India. On Import, we have paid custom duty for aluminium engine scrap. We are dismantling and segregating the Engines into raw scrap using Pneumatic Tools and Hydraulic Presses. We now wish to sell finalised Product as Aluminium Scrap and Heavy Melting steel Scrap. How do we get a refund of the custom duty that we have paid earlier other than the SAD? Further, what all certifications and licensing is required to setup the industry in the correct way.

Thank you for your assistance.

Refunds on Customs Duty for Aluminum Scrap Limited to SAD; Domestic Sales Excluded per Notification No. 102/2007-Customs. An individual inquired about the possibility of obtaining a refund for customs duty paid on imported aluminum engine scrap after dismantling it into aluminum and heavy melting steel scrap for sale. They also sought information on necessary certifications and licensing for industry setup. Responses indicated that a refund beyond the Special Additional Duty (SAD) of 4% is unlikely unless the product is exported. Domestic sales do not qualify for further refunds, and reference was made to Notification No. 102/2007-Customs regarding the conditions for refunds. (AI Summary)
