Exemption on payment of service tax by hospital

VENKAT S

Dear Experts,

Is there any provision enabling a hospital/clinic to claim exemption from payment of service tax on the input services(like rent, etc) availed by it?

Thankyou all.

Hospitals Cannot Claim Service Tax Exemption on Rent According to Notification No. 25/2012-ST; Only Healthcare Services Exempt A query was raised regarding the possibility of hospitals or clinics claiming exemptions from service tax on input services, such as rent. An expert clarified that according to Notification No. 25/2012-ST, healthcare services provided by clinical establishments, authorized medical practitioners, or paramedics, and ambulance transportation services are exempt from service tax. However, rent paid for hospital buildings is not exempt. Other contributors agreed with this interpretation, confirming that no exemption is available for such input services. (AI Summary)
