SEZ Supplies as Exports: Customs Clearance Smooth, But No Export Benefits with INR Payment. Consider RBI Compliance. A company operating under the 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) scheme received an order from an Indian vendor in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to send a consignment to the vendor's overseas unit, with payment in Indian Rupees (INR). The query sought advice on customs clearance issues. Responses indicated that supplies to SEZs are treated as exports, and no customs issues should arise. However, no export benefits would be available if payment is in INR. Suggestions included acting as a merchant exporter and ensuring compliance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations through a tripartite agreement. (AI Summary)
