Excise return consolidation: annual return replaces multiple form filings, streamlining excise compliance requirements and deadlines. The amendment consolidates multiple periodic excise filings into a single annual return, eliminating the requirement to file ER-4, ER-5, ER-6 and ER-7; the data formerly reported in those forms must instead be provided through the new annual return for the prior financial year within the prescribed deadline. The change reduces the total number of separate returns required and became operational from the amendment's effective date in early 2016. (AI Summary)

ER4,ER5 and ER7 returns are to be filed in the new Annual Return form to be notified in the FY 2016-17.

KASTURI SETHI on Aug 6, 2016

Annual Return for the financial year 2015-16 is to be submitted by 30.11.16. This will cover the data/information required in ER-4, ER-5, ER-7. Hence no need to file ER-4, ER-5, ER-7 for the year 2015-16.

Sir, the total number of returns that was filed by assessee prior to amendment was 27. Now after amendment only 13 returns are required to complied with. This change is effective from 01.03.2016. Thus after amendment only 13 returns are required to be filed. Thanks.

KASTURI SETHI on Aug 8, 2016

Right Sir.

It is 12 + 1 from 1.4.16 and + 1 (annual return) pertains to the financial year 2014-15. Return for March, 16 was filed in April, 16. Hence practically effective from 1.3.16 as advised by Sh Ganeshan Kalyani, Sir.
