Please let me know whether can they do the audit legally?

Excise and service tax audit process is legally binding; cooperation advised to avoid complications. An individual received a letter from the CERA audit team regarding an excise and service tax audit for the past three years, marking their excise jurisdictional office. They inquired about the legality of the audit. One respondent advised that audits continue legally despite potential legal challenges, suggesting cooperation with the audit process to avoid unnecessary confrontation. Another respondent noted that delays in document submission might raise auditor suspicion, advising against obstructing the audit unless there are legal grounds. The overall advice was to comply with the audit to avoid complications. (AI Summary)
