White Clay (Kaolin) Exempt from Central Excise Duty under Heading 2505 10 11; Supported by Case Law A query was raised regarding the duty status of white clay, also known as China clay or Kaolin, under Central Excise. The inquirer sought clarification on whether it is duty-free or dutiable and, if dutiable, the applicable rate and classification number. A respondent clarified that white clay is classified under Chapter/Heading/sub-heading no. 2505 10 11 of the Central Excise Tariff Act and is exempt from Central Excise duty. A relevant case law, Commissioner of Customs & Central Excise vs. 20 Microns Ltd., was cited to support this exemption. The inquirer expressed gratitude for the clarification. (AI Summary)
