TDs payment-reg

Ramakrishnan Seshadri

Dear Sir,

I had a doubt on payment for TDS. We have paid TDs on 7th evening around 8 PM. But the Challan date generated is 8th. But in epayment list the date of transaction is 7th. Now the department has sent a notice for late payment of 1 day interest.

Now our question is whether the notice sent by the department is correct or we shall fight with the department.

Kindly clarify.

Thanks & Regards,

S.Ramakrishnan

Tax Department Issues Notice for One-Day Late TDS Payment; Challan Date Considered Official Payment Date A query was raised regarding a Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) payment made on the evening of the 7th, with the challan date recorded as the 8th. Consequently, the tax department issued a notice for a one-day late payment interest. The respondent clarified that the department's notice is correct because the challan date is considered the payment date, not the bank transaction date. However, if there was a valid reason for the late payment, it is suggested to request leniency from the department, which might be considered. (AI Summary)
