Customs Clearance in India 2016

Customs duties on exports are generally not payable; exporters must still budget freight, insurance and CHA fees.
The enquirer, a small-scale merchant exporter, asks which charges apply at customs clearance and whether exemptions exist. Replies indicate Customs duties are generally not levied on exports except for specified commodities, while exporters should expect freight, insurance and Customs House Agent fees; exporters are advised to consult a CHA. The enquirer further asks about Central Excise applicability and procedures for exemption given a turnover below the stated threshold and requests required forms or certificates. (AI Summary)

Hi All,

I have a startup Export company for fabrics.

What are the charges I have to pay during custom clearance. If there is any way to get exempted from any of the charges I want to know, how to get exempted from the same.

Company Type : Small Scale Industry, Merchant Exporter.

Dear Friend,

What I understand from your query is that you want to get some exemption/concessions from charges. Generally, there is are no customs duties to be paid on exports unless specified in certain commodities like Ores, Cement etc.,

Coming to charges an exporter generally from the point of clearance to port of export incurs , Freight,Insurance, in addition to the charges to be paid to the CHA who handles the export clearance.

In view of this, I suggest you to please approach a CHA who regulaly deals with export transactions in the port of export from where you propose to export your commodity

Best Regards

Hi Sir,

Thanks for such valuable information.

Sir, Since my turnover is less than 50 lakhs, I hope I don't need to pay central excise duty as well. Please suggest me how to get exempted from central excise duty, any forms or certificate do I need to submit with my other documents.
