Applicability of Service Tax - on construction of villa for personal use

Sidney Gomes

Dear Sirs,

I have purchased a plot in Shahpur Maharashtra and am constructing a small bungalow for my (family) personal use. The construction is carried out by the land developer.

Would like to get a clarification about registration. Can I register the plot only OR do I have to register the plot along with the completed bungalow.

What are the implications of stamp duty costs and service tax costs (if any).

Will there be any other taxes involved.

Thanks

Service Tax Exemption Possible for Personal Villa Construction Under Notification No. 25/2012-ST; Clarification on Registration Needed A user inquired about the applicability of service tax on constructing a personal villa in Shahpur, Maharashtra. They sought clarification on whether to register only the plot or both the plot and the completed bungalow, and the implications for stamp duty and service tax. A respondent referenced Service Tax Notification No. 25/2012-ST, which exempts service tax for constructing a single residential unit not part of a residential complex, suggesting that the construction of a personal bungalow might be exempt from service tax. Other potential taxes were not specifically addressed. (AI Summary)
