Digital signature certificate

Narendra Soni

Dear Experts,

We have already digital signature certificate for dealing with DGFT department. Can the same may be used for Central excise & service tax records & signature, if yes, please suggest how it can be used.

Digital Signature Certificate for DGFT Not Valid for Central Excise; Electronic Records Allowed for Job Work, Not Digital Signatures. An individual inquired whether a digital signature certificate used for the DGFT department could also be applied to Central Excise and service tax records. A consultant clarified that it cannot be used for Central Excise but is applicable for imports. The individual further asked about using electronic records and digital signatures for job work challans. It was explained that while electronic records can be used for maintaining job work records, digital signatures cannot be used for issuing job work challans as they are not issued under Rule 11 of the Central Excise Rules 2002.
